I’M TURNING 45 IN GHANA.
In April 2027, I turn 45, and I’ve decided where I want to celebrate it: Ghana.
But I’ve given myself a challenge.
My business has to take me there.
I’m not taking the money from my housing savings. Between now and April, I’m challenging myself to generate the money for this trip through my writing, products, services, content and the business I’m building as Dee Goddessa.
This isn’t just about taking a trip.
It’s about deciding what I want, giving it a deadline, and intentionally creating the resources to make it happen.
Ghana is the destination. Building the business is the journey.
You are allowed to design your life.

WHY GHANA? WHY NOT GHANA?
I was born in Europe, raised in America, come from West Indian descent, and I’ve been traveling for most of my life. Travel brings me joy. I’ve experienced beautiful places and different cultures, but I have yet to arrive somewhere and genuinely feel, this is home.
At this point in my life, I’m looking for a connection that goes beyond what I can see.
I recently took an ancestry test, and West Africa was extremely prominent in my DNA. That made me even more curious about what I might feel when I actually stand on the land. Will I feel a connection to my ancestry, my lineage, my DNA? I honestly don’t know, and that’s part of why I have to experience it for myself.
My children are coming with me. We’ve traveled to different continents together, including Africa, and travel has always been something I’ve shared with them. Now I want us to experience West Africa. I want my children to see and experience another part of their history for themselves, and I want us to discover together whether there is a place that feels like home.
Ghana has actually been on my mind for years. Before I ever made the decision to leave America, I thought I would have already made it there. Life happened, circumstances changed, and the trip never happened, but I never completely let go of the desire to go.
Now I’m turning 45.
There was a time when I struggled to even say my age out loud because I was focused on everything I hadn’t accomplished yet, everything I didn’t have, and everything I thought my life was supposed to look like by this age.
I don’t feel that way anymore. I’m embracing my 40s, my life and who I am, and I’m realizing that I am still allowed to want more, dream bigger and create new experiences for myself.
That’s part of what Ghana for 45 represents.
I’ve tried things. I’ve failed at things. I’ve changed directions and started over more times than I can count. This time, I’m challenging myself to push beyond my insecurities, setbacks and fear of failing again and see what happens when I actually make this business work.
Maybe this is what failing my way to success looks like.
Between now and April 2027, I’m challenging myself to build a business capable of paying for this experience for me and my children.
I don’t know exactly what Ghana will be for us. I don’t know whether I’ll love it, simply enjoy the experience, or discover a connection that makes me want to return again and again. That’s exactly why I want to go and find out.
If I can build the business that gets us there, it will mean the absolute world to me. It will mean something for my children, for the people who came before us and for the people who will come after us. It will also allow me to be a real example for other women starting over in their 40s who might be wondering whether they’ve missed their opportunity to create something different.
I don’t want to just tell women that they are allowed to design their lives. I want to show what it looks like when I actually design mine.
Ghana for 45.
MY BUSINESS IS TAKING ME THERE.
THE CHALLENGE
MY BUSINESS HAS TO PAY FOR GHANA.
THE GOAL: £5,000
I’m already saving toward another major goal in my life, and I made a decision when I started Ghana for 45. I don’t want to take money away from one goal in order to make another one happen.
I want to create new money.
For me, this is also part of what designing my life in my 40s looks like. I want to have incredible experiences, travel, celebrate myself and enjoy my life, but I also want to be financially responsible while doing it.
So I’ve given myself a challenge.
Between now and April 2027, I’m challenging myself to generate £5,000 through the Dee Goddessa business to cover our flights, visas, accommodation, food, transportation and other expenses for 10 days in Ghana.
The money for Ghana will come through my books, digital products, services, speaking and media opportunities, merchandise, and whatever other legitimate business opportunities I create along the way.
I’ll be tracking what the business generates toward the £5,000 goal and sharing the progress as I go.
For anyone who simply wants to contribute to Ghana for 45 without purchasing anything, voluntary contributions will also be accepted and tracked separately from business income. The heart of the challenge remains the same: I want to see what I can create through the business I’m building.
I don’t know exactly how I’m going to get there yet. I know where I’m going, I know how much I need, and I know when I want to get there.
Now it’s time to make the business work.
MY BUSINESS IS TAKING ME TO GHANA.

GHANA FOR 45 IS OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY
I’ve set the goal: £5,000 by April 2027. Between my business, the products and services I’m creating, and support from the people following this journey, I’m going to see if I can turn this idea into a trip to Ghana with my children for my 45th birthday.
Right now, we’re starting at £0.
Let’s see what I can build from here.
